Newsletter April 2022

Dear Global Asthma Network colleagues and friends,

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2022. There has been a lot happening, reflected in news and announcements reported in this edition.

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, we hope that you and your family are well and safe.

I am stepping down as Chair of GAN in 1 October 2022, reflecting retirement from my clinical academic position at the University of Auckland in September 2020. It has been a privilege to serve with you, through the work of GAN, those with asthma throughout the world. GAN will be in good hands with Co-Chairs Professors Kevin Mortimer and Refiloe Masekela.

Professor David Strachan is retiring from his university role and his GAN Steering Group role. Congratulations go to Elvis Ndikum for his work on climate change, see page 5.

The Global Asthma Report 2022 is in the final stages of editing. It will be launched in November 2022 at the time of the Union’s World Conference on Lung Health.

We encourage you to keep sending us GAN related publications so that Eamon Ellwood can put these here in the searchable http://www.globalasthmanetwork.org/publications/publications.php GAN website library.

Pleasingly several worldwide GAN articles are already published or in press, and more are planned. All of the GAN Phase I Study Group members for each paper are co-authors. We realise it is timely to update and clarify the GAN publication policy for our collaborators. Professor Neil Pearce has summarised the policy on pages 7-8 and this will be added to the GAN website soon.

GAN was established in 2012, so that we are 10 years old this year! (and about 30 years since ISAAC was founded). There will be some activities to mark this milestone, and we welcome ideas.

With all best wishes from the GAN Global Centre, Auckland.

Innes
